Konica Minolta supports COP15, the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2009

Konica Minolta has been selected as the main sponsor of copiers for COP15, the UN’s 15th Conference of Parties in the Framework Convention on Climate Change being held from 7 to 18 December 2009 at the Bella Center in Copenhagen.

The main objective of the Danish government is that the COP15 Conference should result in the signing of an ambitious global climate agreement focusing in particular on the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The fact that the UN Climate Change Conference is being held in Denmark strengthens Konica Minolta’s vision to reduce its overall impact on the environment, prevent pollution and develop and maintain a green profile.

Our sponsorship includes a number of Konica Minolta multifunctional colour printers and black and white systems. Konica Minolta is looking forward to taking on the responsibility of being a main sponsor and will provide a staff of volunteer technicians and employees to ensure that technical support and help is available to conference participants 24 hours a day.

The Konica Minolta sponsorship consists of three parts:

  • Copiers for the conference centre during the UN’s 15th Climate Change Conference
The conference centre must provide access to the necessary copying facilities so that the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations are able to make copies when required.
  • Copiers for COP15
This part of the sponsorship concerns delegate use of copiers during COP15. Delegates will comprise government representatives from the approx. 180 member countries attending the conference, the press, representatives of international organisations, NGOs, etc.
  • Office hire including Konica Minolta equipment
Up to 172 countries will be able to hire an office equipped with either a bizhub C20 or a bizhub C253.

Participants at the Climate Change Conference are set to sign an ambitious global climate agreement focusing in particular on the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Konica Minolta‘s initiatives to reduce CO2
Konica Minolta has focused on the main causes of global warming. Reduction of CO2 is therefore one of our primary manufacturing objectives.

  • Four CO2 reduction targets Our environmental strategy includes the target of reducing CO2 emissions by 20% through the life cycle of our products in the financial year 2010 compared to levels for the financial year 2000. To reach this target we have set four CO2 reduction parameters: CO2 emissions from production sites in Japan, from production sites in the United States and Asia, during distribution and use of the product.
  • Production and recycling All Konica Minolta copiers have been manufactured with the environment in mind. Our target is to minimise CO2 emissions, air and water pollution and energy consumption for both production and transportation. Konica Minolta‘s facilities and components suppliers have introduced rules for green purchasing and zero waste in their processes to reduce the impact of production on the environment. In addition, all the materials used in our production of multifunctional printers consist either of recycled materials or materials that are recyclable.
  • Konica Minolta‘s unique toners Our products are also environmentally friendly due to Konica Minolta‘s unique Simitri and Simitri HD (High Definition) polymerised toners. The production of these toners means a reduction of CO2 emissions of 40% compared to earlier powder toners. Simitri and Simitri HD toners also help to reduce the energy consumption of our copiers as a result of their low melting point. Because the melting process constitutes approx. 60% of total energy consumption, the use of these toners leads to savings of up to 20%.
